Jobs
We’re looking for our first few full-time employees! We’re very picky about finding the right people who fit with our culture and values. Be sure to read everything below before sending anything.
About our process
We are slow to hire but eager to work with great people on a trial basis for three months. This could be part-time, full-time, or some other arrangement. We know everyone has a unique set of circumstances. For the right person, we are willing to do what it takes.
We are happy to work with people anywhere in the world, as long as they can do a great job. We have a bias toward science, good communication skills, and getting things done.
The fact that we pay well does not mean you should apply. Read our requirements carefully. Application instructions are at the bottom of this page.
Customer generalist
Salary range: $100k (solid performer with potential) - 200k (rock star) plus possible bonus. We are definitely willing to pay at the high end for people who can start with us, get the job done, automate everything, and hire more great people to scale further.
For this role, we are looking for someone who has three important qualities, all in the same person:
1. Technology ninja
Must haves (don’t apply unless you can meet these requirements):
You should be very familiar with Notion. We will ask to see your work in Notion. You should be at the very least a strong intermediate. Can you set up a database? Have you done any scripting? Can you set up a data-entry form?
You should be more than a little familiar with Google Workspace. Can you set up Gmail groups? Automatic calendar reminders? Do you know the difference between an alias and a user?
You should be in at least a few Slack groups already.
You should be into automating workflow. This could be anything from integrating Slack into Notion to using ITTT or Zapier or Dabble or any of a number of other code-driven and no-code solutions. At least a little of this is required, and more is better. What have you automated?
You should be research oriented. How many times have you been to Google Scholar? Do you already have an OpenAI account and have experience with GPT4? Have you used Dall-e, Midjourney, or a GAN? Do you blog or make how-to videos? We have a strong preference for people who already have an OpenAI account before reading this, because that tells us you are more likely to be “one of us.”
You should have the ability to be wrong and admit it. No one is right 100 percent of the time, and we are wrong more often than we think. When you learn you are wrong, do you go toward that and want to learn and understand, or you do you tend to not go there and prefer to focus on other things? Can you give any examples?
Nice to haves:
Familiarity with GoHighLevel or ClickFunnels
Familiarity with a CRM
Familiarity with Mailchimp, Hubspot, Constant Contact, etc.
Familiarity with Squarespace or Wix
Familiarity with Adobe design products
Familiarity with tech support of Apple and PC equipment
Familiarity with cybersecurity, encryption, password managers, back-up, etc.
Study of statistics, data science, the scientific method, history of science, and decision science
Some history of investing and trading
Working familiarity with any of these: contracts, business law, property rights, real-estate, crypto, divorce, insurance, medical research, EMS, general medicine, vaccines, exotic treatments, the reproducibility crisis, exercise science, weight loss, smoking cessation, cancer treatments, metastudies, negotiation, enterprise sales, marketing, management, demographics, actuarial science, project management, design, shipping, art transport, aviation, back-office, taxes, facilities management, etc.
A PhD in any technical or hard-science subject (psych doesn’t count)
The more of those things you can tick off, the better. Do you have any serious hobbies or any unique skills? Can you show you are a critical thinker? Have you been banned from any social media? These are honor badges. Tell us about them!
2. Business problem solver
Experience counts! We are looking for a wide range of experience, not classwork, and not enterprise. We are looking for scrappy problem solvers who can hire a crew to bring a sailboat across the ocean, sell a used Rolls Royce, take inventory of a wine collection, support someone in quitting smoking, arrange an event for 300 people, work with sensitive documents, write a business plan, work with online systems and databases, etc. We want to hear about your various experiences. The more varied, the better. We want to hear how you solved big problems in a hurry. You should be able to act like an owner and participate actively in the growth of the business.
3. Customer-facing excellence
Most of the time, the customer is right, but not always. We are looking for people who have experience working with demanding customers and being firm when necessary. You should have experience going the extra mile for customers. You should have customer testimonials raving about your level of service.
Thoroughness counts. We are looking for people who are thorough, have good documentation skills, and are used to checking work in as done. Is this you? Show us!
Summary: we are looking for technically inclined people with broad and deep backgrounds and customer-facing experience. We have no problem paying well for the right person.
